Hi everyone,

Today I'm going to go over two changes: the first is to NFL Free Agency, and the second is for College Basketball recruiting.

 

NFL Free Agency

To put simply, once the pre-season ends, teams will not be able to sign players or pick up players on the waiver wire until their roster size is lower than 55 players. The functionality will be disabled and will be active once your team has reduced it's size to less than 55.

To reduce the size of your team, you have two options:

  • Cutting a player
  • Placing a player on the practice squad.

To cut a player, simply go to the Roster page and click the "Cut Player" button. Depending on the contract, the remaining bonus on the entire contract will be appiled as a cap hit for the current year. The remaining salary on the contract will be waived and will not apply to the cap hit.

To place a player on the Practice Squad, simply click on the Practice Squad button to place them on the practice squad. When a player is on the practice squad, they will not be considered as part of the active roster count, but will be part of the team's Practice Squad. You can place up to 16 players with less than 3 years of experience on the practice squad.

 

College Basketball Recruiting

In a previous dev diary, I was promising some changes that would be exciting for College Basketball. Due to the amount of work recently required for launching the CFB and NFL seasons; along with the work needed for the SimNBA draft, the changes I was hoping to bring to college basketball will be shelved until next season. I'm really sorry, but with a lot of things going on, this is something I will need to put on the backburner for the next offseason.

With that said, the AI behavior for college basketball teams has been modified for recruiting in order to give teams a bit more personality in how they build their roster. Here are the big changes:

  • AI Teams will make sure that all their position needs are met. Meaning, AI teams aren’t going to be recruiting only Centers if they don’t have a deficiency of Centers on their roster.
  • AI Teams preferences have been extended to give teams more of an identity, and biases in scouting potential recruits.
  • Teams now have a Bias value that can be one of three values: Talent, Star Rating, and Potential
  • Talent looks at two attributes of the AI team’s preference; and if they’re a good match for the team, the chance for an AI to add the croot to their board is higher
  • Star Rating looks at the recruit’s star rating. An AI team that prefers star rating above all else will have a higher chance of adding a recruit to their board based on their star rating
  • Teams that have a bias towards potential are more likely to scout players based on their potential letter grade.
  • These are outside of the AI Behaviors for Blue Blood, Cinderella, P5, and Mid-Major, and instead are extensions of these behaviors
  • The attribute preferences for each AI team was randomly generated save for very specific teams known for having certain qualities with their IRL counterpart. IE: Wisconsin as an AI team will prefer players that are known for their defensive talent
  • None of these changes will affect user teams.

Great question, I believe they will be available on the waivers, but I haven’t completed that functionality yet.
