  1. Hi everyone,

I would like to go over a new feature for the 2023 SimCBB season. Polls are now going to be handled on the interface.

Where do I go to Submit a Poll?

Navigate to the SimCBB schedule page from the navbar or landing page. You will want to click the "Submit College Poll" button now on the left-hand side of the screen.

    image.png.2bf934bdbda7d34eab58bb3703a860ae.png

When submitting, use the dropdowns to select a team at the respective rank position. The dropdowns are keyboard friendly, and you can use the tab key to navigate between each dropdown from left to right.

When selecting a team in a dropdown, their current record within the season will be shown. That way, you as a user have access to their most recent record. I am working on a way to display recent games, though that may be done during the middle of the season.

When you've filled out all 25 spots, click on the submit button to submit your poll. The modal will close, and the poll will be submitted under your username to the Interface DB.

    image.thumb.png.42b850024c149e2e175634b667b2b776.png

Where can I look at the Official Poll?

Right below the "Submit College Poll" Button

    The Official Poll

When viewing the Official Poll, users can select seasons and weeks from the dropdown to view a specific poll from that timeframe. At the moment, none of the previous season polls are available, and it will take some time to collect the data and then migrate it to the interface. Once we're in the season, we will be able to compare polls from separate weeks of each other.

    image.thumb.png.60fbdb022a67130bbf352337a79cfbce.png

When will polls submitted be synced? When can we submit?

Great question. Polls are going to be ran on Sunday at noon with each weekly sync.

Here is how submitting works: Once a day of games has been ran (A,B,C,D), the poll you're submitting will be submitted for the following week. The poll for Week 1 will be considered the Preseason Poll, with Week 2 being the poll after games are complete from week 1.

Keep in mind, college games are only ran on A and B days (Mondays & Wednesdays). This gives everyone a couple of days to rank teams and submit their polls by Sunday. The only exception to this rule will be during invitationals which will take place during 3B, 3C, and 3D (Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday).

What is the Week Zero Poll?

That is the preview poll for testing this feature. It is also based on the ranking algorithm I created this off-season to put an estimate on team rankings.

When can we submit our Preseason Poll?

    You can do it now.

    What's Next?

For College Basketball, nothing. Just need to run the NBA Summer League; and then after that, both leagues will begin season play simultaneously starting September 25th.

Hope y'all are well and have a great day.

  2. Hey all,

I wanted to follow up from the previous dev diary but here is a further explanation from Pierce on the Compensatory Pick system:

Beginning with the 2024 SimNFL Draft, the league will award compensatory draft selections to teams who lose more high-Overall players than they gain in free agency. These picks can range from 3rd to 7th rounders, and always come at the end of the round in which they are awarded. This Dev Diary will cover the way these picks are calculated and handed out.

    Calculating Rounds

To calculate which round a free agent might be “worth”, we first rank all rostered players in the league by Overall score, with contract Value as the tiebreaker. Note that this includes every player on every team, regardless of whether or not they will be a free agent this year. For a list with N players, we give the highest-ranked player N points, the next-highest player N-1 points, all the way down to the last player on the list who gets 1 point.

Example: Haim Costa is currently the only player with an 88 Overall. If there are 1,800 rostered players in the league, Haim Costa begins with 1,800 points. The highest-paid player with an 87 Overall begins with 1,799 points, and so on.

Next, we add points based on the number of snaps played. The player with the most snaps played in the league gets 100 points. Everyone else’s snaps get compared to that number, and the player receives points equal to that percentage.

Example: Player A played in 1,000 snaps, the most in the league, and so gets 100 points. Player B played in 950 snaps, so they get 95 points.

Finally, we add points based on postseason honors. The MVP, OPOTY, and DPOTY get an additional 20 points. All-Pros get an additional 5 points (which can stack with the other honors).

The points from all 3 steps are totalled and the players re-ranked. At this point, compensatory rounds are assigned to the top 25% of players as followed:

    Top 5% : 3rd round
    6% - 10%: 4th round
    11% - 15% 5th round
    16% -20%: 6th round
    21% - 25%: 7th round

Example: There are 1,800 rostered players. The players ranked 1-90 in the final total get a 3rd round grade. The players ranked 91-180 get a 4th round grade, etc. Everyone ranked 451 and below gets no grade.

    Compensatory Additions & Departures

If a player's contract expires and they sign with a different team in free agency, that player’s round will be added to a tally for each team (as a departure for the original team, as an addition for the new team). Note that cut or traded players are not included, only expired contracts. When pre-draft free agency closes, the commissioner will compare each teams’ additions and departures and cancel picks out according to the following rules:

    • Each addition can cancel up to 1 departure
    • An addition cancels out the highest-rated departure of the same level or lower
    • An addition only cancels out a departure of a higher level if there is no other departure available

Remember: if a player’s total score from earlier is too low to have a round associated with it, they have no impact on compensatory picks either way. In 2024 that threshold is about a 64 Overall, but that could shift depending on snap counts. A definitive player list with associated rounds will be published at the end of the season.

Once this comparison is complete, compensatory picks are awarded to all departures that were not canceled out, up to a maximum of 32 picks. If there are more than 32 qualifying departures, only the highest 32 picks will be awarded. There is no minimum number of picks.

Each team can have a maximum of 4 compensatory picks.

    Examples

The following players are made up, but the round rankings are realistic compared to their OVR score (again, snaps and awards will also play a factor). The round is listed first, followed by the name and Overall

    Hamilton Tiger Cats

    Departures Additions
    4. Aaron Aldritch (77)
    6. Benny Barnum (73)

    5. Donnie Dranzel (75)

    7. Charlie Chance (66) 7. Eddie Ertz (67)

The 5th round addition cancels out the 6th round departure (too low to cancel the 4th)

The 7th round addition cancels out the 7th round departure

There are no more additions, so the Tiger Cats get a 4th round compensatory pick

    Montreal Alouettes

    Departures Additions
    5. Francis Foote (76) 3. Jerry Juniper (82)
    5. Gregory Good (75) 6. Kelly Kinder (73)
    7. Harry Hamilton (70)
    7. Ian Ignotus (68)

The 3rd round addition cancels out the 5th round departure (highest remaining)

The 6th round addition cancels out the 7th round departure (too low to cancel the other 5th)

There are no more additions, so the Alouettes get a 5th and a 7th round compensatory pick

    Toronto Argonauts

    Departures Additions

The 5th round addition cancels out the 6th round departure (too low to cancel the 4th)

The 6th round addition cancels out the 4th round departure (no other lower departures to cancel)

Since there are no more departures, the Argonauts are not awarded any compensatory picks.

    Calgary Stampeders

    Departures Additions
    5. Perry Pennington (76) 4. Rusty Robinson (78)

    5. Stewart Swell (75)

      7. Terry Tomlin (67)

The 4th round addition cancels out the 5th round departure

Since there are no more departures, the Stampeders are not awarded any compensatory picks.

Let us know if you have any questions.

    Thanks,

    Tuscan and @Piercewise1

  3. Hi everyone,

Hope y'all are doing well. Today's dev diary is goes over the NFL Extensions feature & Compensation picks. This feature allows teams to extend the contract of NFL players on their roster beyond their current contract length.

Here is a brief list on things to expect with extensions:

    • All SimNFL players have been given updated Minimum Values on what the desired value they're seeking from their next hypothetical contract.
    • Extensions are no longer automatically guaranteed to be signed.
    • Bias is now considered in extensions (and will be considered in FA next offseason).

To navigate to the Extension modal, head to the Roster page for your SimNFL team, find a player with only 1 year remaining on their contract, and click the dollar sign button:

    image.png.d94b9ce919bc3be3d84b8c5a23c3a7b4.png

    The UI

You'll find that the UI for Extension Offers are very similar to the Contract Offer & Waiver Offer features for both SimNFL and SimNBA. The one major addition to the offer page is changing the layout at the very top to accomodate for Free Agency Bias.

    image.thumb.png.5ff2c23f329783500b22751284beaeb2.png

    Biases

Free Agency Bias is the player's bias towards how they pursue their future career in SimNFL. There are 12 different bias values (Including Average) for which a SimNFL player can have. Bias can affect the way a player will review any extension offer presented to them based on the team offering them, the current state of the roster, the value of their previous contract, and

    • Average (No major changes to a player's value when offered a contract.)
    • Adversarial (Increases the value required to sign by 10% for the current contracted team)
    • Championship Seeking (Lowers the value required by 10% if the current team went to the playoffs last year OR is in the race for the playoffs this year)
    • Drafted Team discount (Lowers the value required by 15% if the current team also drafted the player)
    • "Hates" Tags (There are 32 tags under this category, one for each team. If the team offering is from the player's selected Hate, it will increase the value required by 15%)
    • Highly Unlikely to Sign with the Dolphins (Matt Howard only. Consider this like "Average", but with 0% chance he will sign a contract or extension with the Miami Dolphins)
    • Highest Bidder (Free Agency Only - Minimum value required decreases by 15% if it has the highest contract value of all offers presented to player)
    • Hometown Hero (Minimum value decreases by 15% if the team offering is from the player's home state)
    • I'm the Starter (If the player can be within the first two position levels on the offering team's depth chart, the minimum value required decreases by 15%. Otherwise it increases by 15%)
    • Loyal (Minimum value required decreases by 15% if the team offering already has the player on roster)
    • Market-driven (Minimum value required increases by 15% if the offer proposed is longer than 2 years)
    • Money Motivated (FA Only - Minimum value decreases by 15% if the offer proposed is highest in total value of all offers presented to the player)
    • Wants Extensions (Minimum value required decreases by 15% if the offer proposed is longer than 2 years)

    Signing Logic

NFL teams can create an extension offer for a player with 1 year or less remaining on their current contract.

At the end of each week until the end of the season, the interface will iterate through all players with an extension offer. The above logic will be applied IF the player's FA bias is not "Average". Once the logic is applied, the following will occur:

    • If the offered extension is greater than or equal to 70% of required minimum value * bias modifier, the offer has a 25% chance of being signed.
    • If the offered extension is greater than or equal to 80% of required minimum value * bias modifier, the offer has a 50% chance of being signed.
    • If the offered extension is greater than or equal to 90% of required minimum value * bias modifier, the offer has a 75% chance of being signed.
    • If the offered extension is greater than or equal to 100% of required minimum value * bias modifier, the offer has a 100% chance of being signed.

If an offer is signed, a news log will be created signifying that the offered player has accepted the extension. This can be seen from the NFL Landing page & news page.

If an offer is not accepted, it is declined and the player will send the offer back to the user. A news log will be created to signify that the offer was not accepted. During this time, a team can either leave the offer be or update their offer and re-submit the offer to the player.

A player can reject an extension offer up to three times. Once a player has rejected three times, the player will enter free agency. The contracting team will not be able to create a new extension offer for the player from the interface.

How many extension offers can a team send out?

For than NFL team can send out as many extension offers to as many players that have 1 year remaining on their contract for their current team.

    Offer Created

When an offer is created, the $ button will glow green on the extended player's row.

    image.thumb.png.f7a333649d29082cb8c056b199f1a08e.png

    Offer Declined

    image.thumb.png.8f56bca44bc1fe036a18fa0b59348bef.png

The dollar button will be yellow if an offer is declined at least once or if a player has declined an offer at least once.

    Offer Rejected

    image.thumb.png.647c34cd5d82d26804945f5bca4e50ec.png

The dollar button will be red if an offer is declined at least three times or if a player has declined an offer at least three times.

    Compensation Picks

If a team does not sign a player, they will be rewarded a compensatory pick for the next draft. The specific criteria uses overall as a baseline, with snaps and awards being additional weights as far as which compensatory round pick is rewarded.

For starters, here is a guideline as far as what compensatory pick to expect based on the player's overall when entering FA:

    3rd: 80+
    4th: 76-80
    5th: 75-76
    6th: 73-75
    7th: 65-73

Compensatory picks will only be rewarded if a team loses a player to Free Agency. They will not be rewarded a compensatory pick if they choose to cut the player or trade the player away.

    When is this feature available?

    It is available now.

When does the Extension Period take place?

Between weeks 15 through the end of the SimNFL Season (Super Bowl).

    What's next?

This is the final NFL implementation for this season, outside of the NFL progression algorithm.

Other than that, I will be working on getting CBB and NBA ready for the start of the season. For CBB, I need to finish adding the Poll system to the interface. For NBA, I think the NBA Summer League should be starting up after Free Agency, along with filling out the rest of the ISL teams.

That's all I have for now.

I'm not sure what you mean by the held contract for a G-League player being $1M total.  Does this mean if a player is signed to a contract worth more than 1M (which is basically everybody), they can't be assigned to the G-League? Or does that mean I essentially waive a player to the G-League, count 1M per year as his new contract, and eat any excess as dead cap?

Regarding the G-League criteria, here is what I have for the requirements:

    • Have less than or equal to 3 years of experience in the SimNBA
    • Contract must be in the length of 2 years or less
    • The salary of the current year (Year 1 Salary) of the contract must be $2 million or less

My apologies for the confusion. It's a separate sign-up alongside registration for the forums here. If you click signup on the interface and use the email+pw combo used here, along with the username listed here, you should be able to then request a team. Once I see the team request on the interface I can approve you for Coastal Carolina on the interface and then you should have access to your roster, gameplan, and recruiting board.

Will trades that have already been completed be honored or will they be nixed if they don’t comply with the new trade rules?

They will be honored so long as they're done through the trade portal. Any trades involving conditional picks will need to be tracked manually for the time being. Only this year's picks will be on the DB; but any picks after 2023 involved in trades will be honored.

  10. Hey everyone,

Hope y'all are well. Before we begin, I want to say two things:

    1. A huge shoutout to @AFu01 and @smackemz for their hard work with building this page. @AFu01 has been tremendous in putting together the Draft Card that's viewable on the Draft Page UI, and is a key feature for displaying all draft picks for this season and for keeping track of drafted players through the draft. @smackemz has been amazing with beta-testing both this page, the Free Agency Page and Trade Block pages. A big reason why we're able to bring you all of these features this week is because of the work they've done and the effort they put into the interface, and I don't want that to go unrecognized.
    2. We are now at our 100th Dev Diary. Our first dev diary was in late August, and I think since then what we've accomplished shouldn't go unnoticed. We are now at our 100th update to the simulation leagues, and I think that's an important milestone for us to recognize.

With both of these things said, let's go over the SimNBA Draft Page. Here it is in all it's glory:

    image.thumb.png.ad62339a3633d9e36f9f241f3523ad8b.png

We're going to start from the top and go over every detail of this page. There are five key portions of this page that are highly important: The Draft Header, the Draft Pick Window, the War Room, the Draft Pool, and the Scout Board.

    Draft Header

The draft header is the current state of the SimNBA draft. There's the current pick, The Team Drafting, The Next Team Up, the most recently drafted player, the time remaining on the clock, and then Admin Controls (this won't appear if you're admin). The Help Button next to the Time on the Clock will give you an overview on this page, some of which is described in this dev diary. That way you always have this information on hand whether it's looking here or you're on the interface.

    The Draft Pick Window

Every draft pick viewable is found in this section of the draft board. You can scroll through and see all 64 draft picks, and the teams which own them. As the draft continues, the draft picks that have already selected will display the name of the player selected. This is the official order, pending any trades that occur between now and Draft Day.

With that said, I also want to bring up: There will be no trades while the draft is conducted. If you conduct any trades that involve draft picks, please PM me and post here. The data stored on this page is different than what's in the actual DB, and will need to be adjusted manually.

    The War Room

The War Room displays your team information, your draft picks, and the total points you have available for scouting. More info on that in a bit.

    The Draft Pool

    image.png.8f87e881459d572484f702df787d31cc.png

This is the official list of players which are draftable this season. Information available from this list is the name, position, height, college they've declared/graduated from, the state they originated from, their Overall Grade, and the Scout button. Click the Green button to add a player to the Scouting Board. If it's grey, they're added to your board.

    The Scouting Board

    image.thumb.png.d78be13f708ce748662eba72d9df6dc8.png

This is your scouting board. These are the players you want to scout, research, and maybe even draft. There's a lot of info that is jam-packed into this section, so please read carefully.

    • You get more information on the players you're scouting in this section, specifically their core attributes.
    • The Letter Grades shown for the Core Attributes are fuzzied between an unspecified numeric range from the actual value. Not every C+ grade will actually be a C+, and not every A+ will actually be an A+. You have to scout the players to see their true value at draft day.
    • You do not get access to their numeric values nor their potential grade initially.
    • This is where you spend your Scouting Points to reveal the letter grades & potential grade for the players you want to scout. Core Attributes cost 4 points to reveal, and Potential Grade costs 10 points to reveal.
    • To reveal a letter attribute, click on the attribute you want to reveal, and it will be revealed.
    • More information on the player can be shown clicking on the blue info button in the player row. You can view more details on the player here including their draft grades and stats related to their prior year of college.

    image.thumb.png.44a3f6cadc801367e171ccf9c15d0d2c.png

    • When the time comes and your team is ready to draft, click the draft button next to the player you actually want to draft. They will not be initially added to your roster, but their spot will be reserved through the draft picks on the page.
    • To remove a player from your Scouting Board, click on the red trash can. You can always re-add a player to your scouting board from the Draft Pool

Why do we only have 100 points to work with?

We had a lot of discussions revolving around how many points we can have available and how much each attribute costs. We're open to changing things next season, but for this season this is what we will be going by.

Did you forget to reset your board prior to this Dev Diary?

I wanted to show y'all what the revealed attributes would appear like on the draft page. Consider the two revealed attributes for Christian Babcocks as freebies.

When is the prospective date for the SimNBA Draft?

It is August 11th, 2023. We will be conducting both 1st and 2nd rounds that night. Please be there if you're going to participate in SimNBA next season.

With all this said, the SimNBA Draft Page is now available for use. Thank you for your patience this offseason, and happy scouting!

  11.

    Hi everyone,

Hope y'all are doing well. For those reading this now, this information is provided here after the Livestream broadcast on July 13th, 2023. This is in text form so that users have this information on hand.

    SimCBB

    • Hartford, St. Francis Brooklyn, Guam, and Chaminade (Hawaii) are joining recruiting for 2023 and until each team's rosters have been filled.
    • In 2024, Recruiting will feature a Bonus system. Whenever a team spends greater than 0 points on a recruit, a small amount of bonus points will be applied towards that recruit. Bonus points are rewarded based on how well the team performed last season in the following events. Bonus point allotment will be adjusted based on data during the 2024 season.
      • Winning an Invitational (1)
      • Regular Season Conference Champion (1)
      • Conference Tournament Champion (1)
      • Sweet Sixteen (1)
      • Elite Eight (2)
      • Final Four (3)
      • National Championship Participant (4)
      • National Champion (5)
    • Because this was announced after the announcements revolving around Invitationals, no points will be rewarded for winning an invitational for the 2023 season.
    • Polling will take place on the interface. At the beginning of every new week, a sync for Polls will take place, presenting a top 25 ranked poll in the Schedule page.

    All Things SimNBA

SimNBA is almost ready. There's a bit of work that needs to be completed; but for now, the following features will be available for view shortly:

    • Free Agency
    • Trade Block
    • Stats Page

The Draft Page will available sometime next week. A Dev Diary containing all Draft Page functionality will be available once the page is ready.

Free Agency Page is now available to the public, and includes a few key differences from the SimNFL page:

    - G League over Practice Squad

    - International Players

    - Offer Logic

The GLeague operates very differently from the Practice Squad functionality in SimNFL. GLeague players hold onto their contract ($1m total maximum, less than 3 years in the league), and cannot play in any SimNBA games unless called up. Any team can pick up a player from the GLeague; however, if the team that owns the GLeague player picks them up through the Free Agency, the action is automatic.

International Players can be picked up in a similar manner to waiver wire players. Teams will need to pick up their existing contract and add them to their roster.

Offer Logic, which was dependent on the contract value for SimNFL, is dependent on the total value of the contract, witholding options. A team that is offering a player must meet the minimum value requirement requested by the player in every non-option year on the contract.

The International Players toggle will be available once the international rosters are filled out.

    When will Free Agency Start?

After the 2023 SimNBA Draft. You may place offers up now, but there will be no sync until the draft is complete.

    Trade Portal

    image.thumb.png.4370677ee9fe340b976bcd0576c1143c.png

Those who have used the trade portal in SimNFL will be familiar with this page. Simply, listing players on your trade block from the Roster page will appear here. User the dropdown to view another team's roster to offer a trade proposal.

    image.thumb.png.3adf573c95b4a9e903a46547ea3d4ec1.png

The key difference in SimNBA is that trades proposed must be similar within 10% of both team's values. A trade cannot be proposed if there is a value-offset. Teams cannot dump assets to other teams.

To offset this, teams are able to transfer cash to the receiving team to balance out the trade. This cash will be utilized and available for the other team to help with their cap space for the current season.

Both the FA page and Trade Portal are now available.

  12. Hi @FirstDownGaming! Excited you're here!

You have been approved for Marshall. Please see our start guide here and make sure to request Marshall on the interface. We are currently in the middle of the season, but there's still time to adjust. College basketball will hopefully be starting sometime in July. Will provide more info on the site once we get closer to mid-July.

@Kirby Please set him up with the appropriate avatar.

Just so everyone is 100% clear and no one can poke holes, is the gameplan/DC due at 11:59am or pm on Wednesday’s and can you edit that in? Thanks!

11:59 PM, Eastern Standard Time on every Wednesday. Any further questions on specifically when gameplans/DC are due will incur a gameplan penalty for both offense and defense

  14. Hi everyone,

After this update, I'm not going to be providing any changes until after June.

Here is a shortlist of today's changes:

    • Fixed bug where Practice Squad offers weren't showing up in NFL News Page
    • Fixed bug where updated NFL gameplans weren't properly being displayed in the news log. This will go into affect for any future changes starting now.
    • Redesigned landing page to place logo near team name. This applies to all four leagues
    • Added a personalized news feed to the landing page
    • Added the option for teams to let the AI recruit for them

    Landing Page

The landing page has been redesigned to accommodate more space for the news feed. Here is how it should look for all teams:

    image.thumb.png.f8b34aeae8670ff8472cb7d819a107e2.png

This update should also resolve some issues that users were facing due to the size of their team's logo. By moving the logo up, everything that the user should be able to see regarding their team should be neatly in view.

    Personalized News Feed

The Personalized News Feed on the landing page is supposed to be a quick report on anything going on in the league of which the user is viewing. There can be up to 10 news logs in the news page: Five of the logs are dedicated to the most recent updates to the news page, and the other five are the latest updates revolving around your team.

For NFL, any practice squad offers made on a player in your practice squad will appear in the personalized news feed. It's not a notification chime, but this is the best with what I can do right now with the current design.

For all updates on the news, I highly suggest clicking the News button in the navigation bar.

    Recruiting Update

Users will now have the option to let the AI recruit for their team. This means that they do not have to make any decisions during the season, and the AI will recruit for them. The AI will recruit based on the AI behaviors designated for their specific team. Each week, they will decide whether to place points onto a recruit, or to spend points elsewhere.

I would like to iterate that this is completely optional and is a Quality of Life feature provided for those that may not have as much to dedicate towards recruiting, and simply want to focus on the strategy and gameplanning side of the sim. The AI will recruit for you, but making your own decisions in recruiting will give you more control on the future of your program.

To activate AI control of your program, visit your Team's Recruiting Board and click the Toggle AI button on the left-hand side.
