  1. This will be a running miscellaneous FAQ document. As we gather questions in the Shoutbox, Discord, and various threads/posts, we will add those questions and answers in this document. You will find one-off and quick questions in here. Some of the information may be answered in other informational documentation, and we will try our best to link them in here as necessary. Feel free to respond to this thread with any questions you may have, as well. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Website Is there a document that answers frequently asked questions? Yes, we have a FAQ document here Simulation Recruiting Player generation Does height and weight affect player performance? Not at the moment, but it may be implemented later down the line You will, however, see height and weight correspond more realistically with position and archetype (e.g. You should not see a 6'0" 190 lbs blocking TE Teams
  2. In real life, as a player progresses throughout their career, from a high school recruit to a CFB player to an NFL player, we begin to better understand their strengths and weaknesses. The simulation aims to create a steady roll out of information to simulate a similar experience. Currently, players go through five stages throughout their careers: High school recruit CFB player Potential NFL draftee / Combine participant NFL player Experienced NFL player Each stage is listed below with a brief definition as well as what information coaches will see. Bold/red highlighted text indicates changes from the previous stage. The same exact information is revealed to all coaches unless otherwise noted. On letter grades: The difference between an A to F letter grade and an A+ to F- letter grade is that the latter gives a bit more nuanced level of information. (For example, if a player has a B, this could mean a B-, B, or a B+) On star ratings: Star ratings are a fuzzied version of a player's overall It is there because we had originally intended on creating a step prior to what is currently known as High school recruit In the future, we are contemplating adding an extra step before this that requires coaches to spend recruiting points to talk to a HS coach or scout a state in order to get a certain depth of information (For example, Overall rating would not be shown and users will have to start with the star rating to determine if they want to scout a player further ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- High school recruit A high school recruit is a player who is currently courting college coaches and is not on a CFB roster yet At this stage, coaches see the following information: Name Star rating (1-5) Position and preferred archetype Overall rating (A to F letter grade) Height and weight High school and hometown Potential (A+ to F- letter grade) CFB player A CFB player is a player who has committed a college team and is now officially on a CFB roster as an active or red-shirted player At this stage, coaches see the following information: Name Star rating (1-5) Position and preferred archetype Overall rating (A to F letter grade) Height and weight High school and hometown Potential (A+ to F- letter grade) All attributes (A to F letter grade) Stamina (A to F letter grade) Potential NFL draftee / Combine participant A potential NFL draftee / combine participant is a player who has declared for the draft and have participated in a combine/workout. If a player has moved to this stage, they are no longer eligible to return to their college team to play At this stage, coaches see the following information: Name Star rating (1-5) Position and preferred archetype Overall rating (A+ to F- letter grade) Height and weight High school and hometown Potential (A+ to F- letter grade) All attributes (A to F letter grade) Stamina (A to F letter grade) NFL player An NFL player is a player who has either been drafted or signed as an undrafted free agent following the end of their college career At this stage, coaches see the following information: Name Star rating (1-5) Position and preferred archetype Overall rating (Exact numerical value) Height and weight High school and hometown Potential (A+ to F- letter grade) All attributes (A+ to F- letter grade) Stamina (A+ to F- letter grade) Discipline (A+ to F- letter grade) Experienced NFL player All players are assigned a random number in the hundreds (not including special teams players) that represents the number of snaps this player needs to play before becoming an experienced NFL player This is done to simulate the growth of a player in the NFL as coaches learn more and more about their players At this stage, coaches see the following information: Name Star rating (1-5) Position and preferred archetype Overall rating (Exact numerical value) Height and weight High school and hometown Potential (A+ to F- letter grade) All attributes (Exact numerical value) Stamina (Exact numerical value) Discipline (Exact numerical value) ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- There are some information that is currently generated and are not revealed to anyone: ID For back-end purposes [*]Injury This is a numerical value that determines the chances of a player getting injured At the moment, injuries are not coded into the simulation and it has not been determined how this attribute will be represented, if at all [*]Traits (Academic, Free agency, Personality, Recruiting, Work Ethic) All players are assigned ratings for each of these traits in the form of flavor text At the moment, the impact of these traits have not been coded into the simulation, so they are hidden for now and will not affect player performance [*]Progression The progression rate is the exact numerical value of the Potential letter grade This number will not be revealed and coaches must utilize the Potential letter grade to determine how a player will progress from season to season ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Hopefully this breakdown was useful to everybody, please let the admins or staff know if you need any clarifications!

  4. How are the initial rosters generated? Teams are first put into a completely randomized order and are then placed in buckets based on real-life prestige of each conference The rosters are then generated one season at a time to give a mix of each school year The teams then "draft" players to fill in their rosters (this step is done by a program, not the coach) [*]Are teams guaranteed certain players during initial team generation? All teams, including AI teams, indicate their top three positions for each year [*]How do the top three positions work? Users may select three of the following groups per year for a total of 12 players: QB Skill positions (RB, FB, WR, TE) O-line (OT, OG, C) D-line (DT, DE) Linebackers (ILB, OLB, MLB) Secondary (SS, FS, CB) Special teams (K, P) [*]Where do we make these selections? Currently, the interface is not quite ready yet. When it is done, selections will be made there While we wait for that to be completed, we will use a special sign-up thread [*]Is there a list of all positions and archetypes? Click here
  5. On behalf of all of the Admins, Staff and Moderators of SimFBA: welcome to our site! We hope that you have a great time here with us and have as much fun as you can. Please let us know if you have any questions and if you need help with anything!
  6. NEWSIM DEFINITIONS PT. 1: Attributes to Know Carrying Agility Catching Man Coverage Zone Coverage Football IQ Kicking Accuracy Kicking Power Pass Block Pass Rush Punt Accuracy Punt Power Route Running Run Block Run Defense Speed Strength Tackle Throw Power Throw Accuracy Height Weight Injury (Hidden) Stamina Discipline (Hidden) This is the list of player attributes currently in the simulation. The ones that need the most explanation, however, are Stamina and Football IQ. Stamina is an attribute that determines a player’s skill relative to fatigue, and the more stamina they lose (on a scale from 20-0, with 20 being the highest), the more their skill drains. After it reaches zero, the player will need to be taken out from the game. Football IQ is determinant of a player’s intelligence on the field, and determines whether or not players are able to identify the ‘correct’ read on a given play and follow up on it. A running back with a low Football IQ will try to run into the line like Trent Richardson, while a high IQ back would identify the hole and hit it. Some positions, like Quarterback, rely on Football IQ more than others when their overall is determined. PT. 2: Progression The following document was used to help develop progression numbers for players: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1iPQ85bZxS82aLaeSc85qc-Sfe7vmv10GMew-hR8VErU/edit?usp=sharing Progression - or regression, as the case may be, is the system that determines a player’s growth across their career. Players are almost guaranteed to grow across their college career, and can progress via good play or accolades / team performance. After they reach a certain age in their careers, they will be fighting against regression, or the degradation of their skills. PT. 3: Gameplans and Playbooks Gameplans will be accessible to each user through the site’s interface, and will provide users depth and flexibility in crafting a competitive and thought - out plan for every game in both the collegiate and professional levels. Gameplans are derived from playbooks, which are lists of offensive or defensive plays designed around a core scheme or formula. Each playbook will have a ‘base’ gameplan that is designed to be balanced and accessible for the new user, but that a more experienced / football knowledgeable member would be able to out - scheme. Each gameplan will have certain ‘sets’, which are contextual game situations that have different playcalls associated with them. For example, the Second and Short ‘set’ will mostly consist of inside runs meant to gain only the few yards necessary, while a Third and Long set will contain more passes designed to stretch the field. Users will be able to choose which plays are in each set, as well as weight which plays are called more often. Another feature of this system is that all playbooks, with all of their plays diagrammed and explained, are available to everyone, so that users can discuss playbooks together.

  10. SimFBA Mission Statement SimFBA is an in-depth football simulation site that seeks to create a unique and challenging football community dedicated to building the site and a tight community. We distinguish ourselves by being a community that is committed to full transparency of both the simulation itself and community decisions that will take place. “Treat each other like you would in real life; don’t hide behind a keyboard” --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- About Us SimFBA is a community of people who enjoy football enough to participate in a simulation of it where they are the coach, GM, owner, and/or scout. SimFBA uses a community-built simulation engine called NewSim. All of the Admins and Staff members on this site have directly contributed to the assembly and management of the forum, development of the interface, and from-the-ground-up coding of the simulation engine itself. Currently, the site is in BETA and the simulation is NOT complete. We are, however, working on it nearly every day to bring the best possible simulation to the community. Considering this status, we would appreciate any and all patience, feedback, suggestions, and criticisms that the community could provide us. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- SimFBA Rules SimFBA is meant to be fun and competitive - “trash talking” is allowed and encouraged. However, repeated instances of aggressive or unnecessary “trash talking” may be grounds for expulsion from SimFBA Spirit of the Sim The “Spirit of the Sim” is to create an engaging, stats-driven college and professional football simulation with realistic and fun features Going against the Spirit of the Sim includes, but is not limited to, cheating by secretly working with others in an attempt to defraud, exploit, or otherwise purposefully break the simulation’s mechanics and immersion Discriminaton SimFBA does not and shall not discriminate on the basis of race, color, religion (creed), gender, gender expression, age, national origin (ancestry), disability, marital status, sexual orientation, or military status, in any of its activities or operations. These activities include, but are not limited to, selection of staff or members and provision of services. We are committed to providing an inclusive and welcoming environment for all members of our admin, staff, members, and guests. Discrimination strictly forbidden and is punishable by expulsion from SimFBA as decided upon by a tribunal Collusion Collusion is defined as the act of privately working with staff or other members to gain an unfair advantage against the spirit of the simulation Collusion is strictly forbidden and is punishable by expulsion from SimFBA as decided upon by a tribunal Alternate accounts Alternate accounts is defined by a user controlling more than one account (unless otherwise allowed by site staff) Operating more than one account is strictly forbidden and is punishable by expulsion from SimFBA as decided upon by a tribunal Inactivity Coaches and required to remain active within the community in order to maintain ownership of their teams Unless otherwise noted, users who have more than 14 days of unexcused inactivity on the site may have their teams given to other users who have applied for them Team changes Coaches may only leave a team to join another during the offseason This rule is in place to help reduce volatility and avoid situations where coaches leave their team due to a series of poor performances Punishments Punishments (severity, length, etc.) for breaches in SimFBA rules are determined by a tribunal made up of the site admin, conference commissioner (where applicable), NCAA commissioner, NFL commissioner, and the community ambassador. All punishments will be documented and easily-accessible in a spreadsheet for all members to view The purpose of this document is not to shame members, but to provide members with a transparent method of keeping site staff accountable for determining fair and just punishments
  11. Hello! Welcome to Simulation Football Association! To get yourself a team, create a new post in the "Job Applications and Interviews" sub-forum (The same sub-forum that this post lives in. Click this link here.) copy and paste the following questions into the post body and be sure to answer them all to the best of your ability: What is your username? We use discord often for quick communications and for streaming games to our community. Using discord is optional, though we suggest it because it's a great way to connect with others and to watch games. For those applicable, what is your Discord username? League you are applying for (CFB, College Basketball, NFL, NBA) Which team do you want to apply for? (Click here for a list of currently open teams.) (If NFL or NBA, please specify the role.) What are 3 backup teams in descending order of preference? How much time can you devote to the community? The more people that are active, the more fun the sim as a whole is with all of the fun interactions that can take place between users, whether it be in the Shoutbox, or through various forms of media. How did you find out or hear about SFA? Do you know anybody from SFA? List their usernames if applicable. Tell us a little about yourselves to serve as a short introduction to the community. That’s all! The Conference Commissioner from your respective conference should be along shortly to approve you for your team and help you get started. If you have any questions, feel free to ask them in the shoutbox!
