#136 | The Return of the Recruiting Efficiency Score (RES)

Recommended Posts

Posted

Hi everyone,

Today I am covering the return of the Recruiting Efficiency Score (RES) system that we use in our SimCFB league. We initially utilized this system in our 2nd season (2022); however based on feedback, we decided to disable the system until all initially generated rosters have graduated, which was by the 4th season (last season, 2024).

For a refresher on the RES system, I recommend reading Dev Diary 56.

For the 2025 season and moving forward, we will be using the RES system in SimCFB Recruiting.

Is anything changing with RES from the previous run?

The previous system will remain unchanged, except for one change that will be impacting FCS schools only.

Currently in the RES system, FBS teams can have as low of a score as 80%, and as high as 100%. Having either 80% and 100% will be an outlier because RES tracks previous season record, current season record, along with career-coach record. At most, most FBS teams will be within the range of 88-92%.

For FCS teams, the range of RES will be between 50% to 70%. This change is made as a nerf towards FCS recruiting and to help balance recruiting battles for the current user base. Keeping realism in mind, when we do open up FCS to user coaches, this will give coaches a trajectory of what to expect when recruiting talent and competing with competitive FBS schools. It's not going to be impossible for an FCS team to recruit and sign a 5-star recruit, but it will be very difficult for a team to do so.

Will RES be adjusted in the future?

We will adjust RES as needed for balancing purposes once we receive data and feedback from the 2025 season.

Thanks,

Tuscan

will CFP participants get Conf Champ flag set, asking for a friend.

I don't believe this is the case at the moment in the Interface. I will also need to check if there's an exception to this rule for independent teams like Notre Dame and UConn.

FWIW - without the Conf Champ. flag/setting, ND (13 wins) is tied for 40th with several 8 win teams in RES, with the flag ND becomes tied for 19th, placed amongst several 10 win teams.

@TuscanSota I wonder if there's a way to remove the weights for conference champs from teams that don't qualify for one instead of them getting a zero in it?

I can adjust that in RES where independent teams won't be counted against this weight.
