The SimCFB Depth Chart page is where Coaches set their line ups and prepare for games by reviewing opposing Coach’s lineups. It also serves to reinforce which attributes make players at each position successful. For example, the Quarterbacks | QB listing has Throw Power, Throw Accuracy, Football IQ, Agility, Speed, Stamina, Shotgun Rating, Injury and Potential Grade attributes displayed – these are the important attributes for Quarterbacks.  It does not include Pass Blocking, Punt Accuracy, and the other player attributes that do not contribute to Quarterback play.

The Depth Chart page lists information about the Gameplan schemes you have selected, as a reminder for the archetypes that perform well (get a small bonus) in your scheme and those that are Bad Fits for your scheme (get a small minus).  Strengths and Weakness matchups show which opposing schemes generate an overall bonus (Strengths) or minus (Weaknesses) to your team.

Setting Line Ups

The page starts with your team in the first drop down. Leave this as-is or return to your team in the drop down to set up lineups for the season and make changes as desired between games.  Line ups must be set ahead of midnight (Eastern) before game day to be sure the changes are in effect for the next day’s game.

The Position drop down allows the Coach to cycle through positions to set the line ups at all positions. These will have to updated to move an injured player off the depth chart or change players for better running/run defense, passing/pass defense after reviewing the opponent’s line ups. Only players that are eligible to play at the selected position will appear in the list, and their attribute rankings will be displayed for that position, which may be different than what appears on their player cards.

Choose starters in the top lines for each position, typically the first line equals first string, second line is second string, except for positions that have multiple starters depending on formation. These can include RB, WR, TE, DT, SS, and CB. Remaining slots for each position will enter play in case of injury, or in ‘garbage time’ if your team has a large lead later in the game.  The more snaps played, the better progression between seasons, so a Coach has to balance their best players and playing time for younger players.

The Special Teams Unit | STU

The bottom selection in the Special Teams unit. All players are eligible for special teams play, but the first 10 slots are regularly used in extra-point kicks, field goal attempts, kickoffs, punts and kick/punt returns in addition to the defined returner/kicker slots. These players will get snaps counted towards improved post season progression and are typically a mix of younger linemen and skill players. The last 5 slots will get more limited playing time based on injuries (if any) and/or large leads allowing 2nd/3rd string players to see the field.

The upper right of the screen includes links to Save Depth Chart to lock in the changes you’ve made (always save your work!), or to Reset Depth Chart if you want to undo the changes you’ve made, and a quick link to the Gameplan page to be sure you’ve got the best players lined up for your scheme and play selections.
