Following the news last season where Hartford and St. Francis - Brooklyn had dismantled their basketball programs, both schools have found emergency funding and are rejoining the NEC. This news arrives in the wake of Merrimack and SHU leaving to join the MAAC Conference, and Chicago State receiving an invite to join the NEC.

When asked about how the emergency funding was found, this is what Hartford Athletics Director Norman Rockford had to say:

"It's interesting, after we dismantled the program, we found this old couch in our storage unit from when we let go of all the athletic staff. As it turns out there was a huge emergency fund of cash right underneath one of the couch cushions. We don't know how the money got there or who was trying to embezzle funds but frankly with cash now in the books we can actually be serious about bringing back athletics."

The SF-BK Athletics Director had a similar answer, but with the only difference being a massive piggy-bank in the janitor's closet.

This will put the NEC Conference at 10 schools for the 2024 Season and save the conference from collapsing.
