Douglas Downey, a 5-star outside linebacker from Brandon, Mississippi, has established himself as an elite edge rusher during his time at Northwest Rankin High School. The 6'3", 241-pound prospect has the strength and speed to excel at the college level and give opposing quarterbacks nightmares.

As a junior, Downey led the Cougars defense in sacks (14) and tackles for loss (22) as he set up a permanent address in opposing backfields. Neither coaches nor players had an answer for Downey's burst off the line, as he routinely raced around blockers to hit the quarterback. Even double-teams didn't seem to do much, as Downey used his immense strength to bully tackles, tight ends, and fullbacks alike. He even busted out the chop and spin moves on occasion, when it served him.

Downey is known as a monster in the gym and is looking to add even more muscle in his senior year. His athleticism and determination have drawn the attention of many SEC scouts, who will no doubt be filling the bleachers of Northwest Rankin High School to get a first-hand look at the young phenom. But wherever he ends up, Downey has made one thing clear: he's not signing up to ride the bench. Will this insistence on playing time make high-end programs think twice before recruiting someone who might be a transfer risk? Or does this attitude only further extoll the young man's tenacity and drive to succeed?

Downey's college declaration should be the subject of intense scrutiny during his senior season. Keep one eye on Brandon, Mississippi to see how the situation develops.
