Both Critics and Fans Rejoice as Carolina Reinforces Line of Srimmage

Charlotte, NC

Panthers fans everywhere as well as NFL pundits are applauding the new General Manager, @Jambo for his signings over the duration of Free Agency, headlined by the unanimous best player available. Three of the four signings to date have reinforced either side of the line of scrimmage which seems to be a premiere focus between the Panthers Owner/Coach and GM. When asked about the signings, Coach Sarge replied "We all understand that games are won first by the big guys up front and we won't rest until we're satisfied with our solution along the line."

Alex Caruso, the crown jewel of the signing period for all teams was desperately wanted by many teams as the Bengals and Patriots all jumped into the fold to hire the guard for his services. Eventually, the full guaranteed contract for Caruso spoke to him the most and as he selected Carolina early to solidify his decision and as the kids say, "secure the bag" as he agreed to a deal that will pay him over 80 million over 4 years. During the joint press conference with the other free agency additions, Caruso had this to say: "I'm excited for the talent that I'll be protecting at the Quarterback position and I'm glad an organization like Carolina has that kind of belief in me as a player to make me a cornerstone of their franchise. I'm excited for the season and look to earn every penny. I can play every position across the line and Coach has assured me he'll put me in a position to succeed."

You'd figure after getting the best offensive lineman in free agency, the Panthers would look elsewhere. This was not the case though as GM Jambo went after OT Peter Smith to round out the talent and give Caruso some coverage on the opposite side of the line as early indicators have suggested Caruso won't be playing his natural position of Guard and will likely take over as the starting Left Tackle with Smith taking the Right Tackle spot. This is a huge upgrade over the depth chart and gives the younger guys high level players to look up to and develop beneath whenever it's time for Caruso and Smith to move on.

Lastly, fans have already affectionately nicknamed Defensive Tackle addition Steven Kampfhammer "The Shithammer" given his imposing frame and ability to lay down big hits on runningbacks and quarterbacks alike. Kampfhammer brings huge upside and an easy to love high floor ability that will continue to show up on gamedays. Whether or not Carolina decides to bolster the DLine further through the draft remains to be seen given how deep the defensive tackle class is but indicators are strong if their free agency tendencies are any indication.

NFL critics have been impressed with the Panthers hire of GM Jambo, calling his ascension from "cheerleader manager in Atlanta" to "potential GM of the year" one for the ages. There's still a lot of work left to do on the roster and Coach Sarge continues to advocate for players to round out his roster after relinquishing his GM responsibilities, but not before he dismantled the entire roster for a fortune of picks. Fans remain optimistic and draft day can't come soon enough.
