Iowa State Basketball Under New Coach Qupax Goes 1-1 in Week 6

Cyclones Secure Impressive Victory Over Oklahoma, Fall to #15 TCU Behind Strong Play from Guard Terry Torres

Ames, IA - The Iowa State Cyclones (5-7, 1-1) made a strong start to their Big 12 campaign under new head coach Qupax, earning a 1-1 record in the first week of Big 12 conference play.

On Friday, the Cyclones dominated the Oklahoma Sooners (6-6, 0-2), earning a 75-58 victory in front of a packed crowd at Hilton Coliseum. Leading the way for Iowa State was junior guard Terry Torres, who scored a game-high 22 points on 7-of-11 shooting from the field. The Cyclones outscored the Sooners in both halves en route to a decisive win.

However, the Cyclones were unable to carry that momentum into their road matchup against the #15 TCU Horned Frogs (10-2, 2-0), falling 97-83 in a blowout loss. Despite another strong performance from Torres, who scored 20 points in the game, the Cyclones could not keep pace with TCU's high-scoring offense.

Despite the loss, Coach Qupax remained upbeat about his team's performance. "I'm proud of the way our guys battled today," he said after the game. "Terry really stepped up for us, and I think we showed a lot of promise in our first two games. We'll be back in the gym working hard to get better."

On Wednesday, the Cyclones will look to bounce back in their next matchup, a home game against the #14 West Virginia Mountaineers (9-3, 2-0) led by Coach smackemz3.
