Aztecs Throttle BYU, 43-7

The San Diego State Aztecs continue to pour on the points, posting 43 in a rout of the BYU Cougars. This was the third straight contest of scoring 43 or more and they have outscored their opponents 135-60 over that stretch. In this one, Quarterback Hung-Chih Anderson casually tossed another five touchdowns on 383 yards passing, with no turnovers, as the team jumped out to a 29-0 lead before BYU would get its only score of the game late in the 3rd quarter. Anderson would find Running Back, Bryan Brown, for three of his touchdowns, and Tight End, Kahlil Gohara, with the other two. Gohara now leads the nation in touchdown catches with 11. For reference, the next closest tight end has just five, and only one wide receiver, Western Michigan's Andy Anderson, has ten.

About the only trouble that SDSU seemed to have in this one was with their kicking, where Adam Garner missed two of his six extra point attempts. He was able to make his lone field goal attempt, a 36-yarder that made the score 10-0 in the first quarter, but missing two chip-shot extra points is certainly something that will weigh on the mind of Coach Pumph as the Aztecs play some tighter games.

For their efforts, the Aztecs have finally cracked the Top-25 in the most recent edition of the Coaches Poll, weighing in at #22. Up next, a tricky New Mexico team that has seen themself ranked earlier on and is currently garnering votes in the same poll.
