SDSU Routs Rival #23 SJSU, 47-19

San Diego State turned what could have been a close game into a laugher with 24 4th quarter points to defeat the San Jose State Spartans, 47-19. After trading scores through the game's first three quarters, and with San Diego State holding onto a 23-19 lead, the Spartans, on fringe field goal range went for it on 4th and 2 on the first play of the 4th quarter. After Dejounte Fitts' pass fell incomplete, it was like a balloon burst for the visiting Spartans. The next two plays saw Aztec Running Back, Bryan Brown sprint around the end for a 42-yard gain and Hung-Chih Anderson then find Brown for a 23-yard scoring strike. After a three-and-out by the Spartans, the Aztecs would tack on an Adam Garner field goal to make the score 33-19. On just the second play of the ensuing possession, a Fitts pass would be intercepted by Jeff Wilson. Two plays later, Brown would prance into the endzone untouched to effectively end the game. The Aztecs would add insult to injury with another score on their next possession to achieve the final margin, 47-19.

For the game, Brown would find the end zone on three separate occasions, while accumulating 156 yards rushing on 26 carries and adding seven receptions for 80 yards. Tight End, Kahlil Gohara, continued his hot streak with two more touchdowns, giving him eight over the last three contests. His nine touchdowns on the season leads the nation. Anderson once again had a hot hand for the Aztecs, with 358 yards passing and five touchdowns. He is creeping up the statistical leader boards and a few season-ending award watch lists.

More importantly, the win brings the Aztecs to 3-0 in Mountain West Conference play, and 4-2 overall. Still, the team seems to be lacking the national recognition that the defending College Football Playoff participants, who have played six tough opponents to a winning record would seem to be due. All six of the Aztecs' opponents were ranked at some point in the season, including the Spartans' #23 ranking heading into this contest. The Week 6 Coaches poll was recently released and saw the Aztecs receive just two points from the pollsters.

Up next for the Aztecs is a trip to Provo, Utah to face the 3-2 BYU Cougars. The Cougars will be the first team that the Aztecs have played this season that has not been ranked at any point, but the Cougars are a dangerous team, capable of earning a ranking before the season is over. They also are buoyed by the recent signing of Quarterback, Dick Richards, one of the nation's top recruits. While Richards will not be suiting up for the Cougars this weekend, his signing has created a buzz and sense of optimism in Provo.
