Hello coaches!

So the dev team is not entirely sure how to initially generate the NFL rosters for the inaugural 2022 season. While we all agree that there should be some form of user input on the generation of the teams, we are unsure exactly how to execute that. As it stands, we currently have two suggestions: Pool and Auction.

Pool:

All 32 teams are presented a pool of player in large enough size to construct a 55 man roster. All pools of generated players will have different years of service, overalls, and potentials assigned to them making each pool unique to one another. Each player will cost a dollar amount (TBD) that is weighted based on years of service, overall, potential and position (QBs cost more to buy than guards). All "Archetypes"/"Styles" of players will be available in this pool. Not all teams will have star caliber QBs, CBs, or WRs but will have one in some capacity in another area.

A 55 man roster MUST be completed from this pool. All remaining players will be gathered from all 32 teams. An aggregate of all 32 team overalls will be taken and be utilized as a cut-off margin in some shape or form to use the remaining unchosen players to generate the Free Agent pool. For example, if the 32 teams average out to 81, we can use 81 as a starting line an determine perhaps all 75 OVR players and below will be the Free Agent pool so as to not oversaturate the Free Agent pool or create unexpected advantages.

This method allows teams to build around the scheme and personnel they prefer and automatically give projectability for where they can draft and improve in the offseason.

Auction:

Approximately 100-120 "star" players will be generated in multiple positions, archetypes, ages and contracts. Each team will be given a certain number of points for the entirety of the auction. The auction will be some number of rounds long (3 for example). Each round, teams will place however many points they wish on any number of players they wish (this could be adjusted to have a minimum point threshold for players based on position, age, etc. and a maximum number of players that can be bid on per round). And the end of each round, the team with the most number of points on a player gets the player. Leftover players continue to the next round. Any players left over at the end of the auction goes to free agency.

The rest of each team will be filled with "average" and "below average" players that will be generated only after the star players are auctioned off. A certain number of these average and below average players will also be put into free agency. Ties on bids can be resolved either by a coin flip, a pre-determined and public waiver wire order, or some other method.

This method is intended to allow each team to chose what they value in a team, rather than a predetermination of what good players they are allowed to chose from while also allowing teams to strategize on how they want to build their team at first (do you go all in on a top player? Do you try to grab more players you think might be unwanted?).

Please vote in the following poll based on these descriptions: NFL Team Generation Poll

Voting will be open for 24 hours.

I can already see this being broken otherwise. Shotgun a full roster while others chase the pro bowl QB.
