QB Riley Okeke, Hawaii

Hawaii has had a pretty underwhelming start to the season at a 1-5 record, but fans saw a glimmer of hope in their offense as Riley Okeke shredded the Bowling Green defense on the road in their week 8 out of conference matchup. He completed 20 of his 30 passing attempts on the game for 268 passing yards and 3 passing touchdowns including a 57-yard bomb to his receiver Steve Olynyk and another 31-yard passing touchdown to Olynyk again. He would also rush for 158 yards on 14 attempts and would tack on 2 more touchdowns on the ground. All in all, he put up 426 total yards and 5 touchdowns to give Hawaii their second win of the season.

Honorable mentions:

QB Kenny Redmond (UNLV) - 27-32, 322 yards, 1 touchdown

QB Anthony Sweeney (Air Force) - 13-28, 312 passing yards, 3 passing touchdowns, 1 interception, 8 rushes, 133 rushing yards, 1 rushing touchdown

QB Hung-Chih Anderson (SDSU) - 22-37, 419 passing yards, 4 touchdowns, 1 interception

RB J.C. Lacy (Fresno State) - 25 rushes, 222 rushing yards, 4 rushing touchdowns, 5 receptions, 21 receiving yards

DT Demone Motter, San Jose State University

San Jose State has also struggled mightily to start the season. However, if there's anyone whose effort you couldn't doubt in their out-of-conference matchup against UTSA, it was Demone Motter. Motter led the team in tackles with 7. Not only was he a tackling machine, but he was completely disruptive in the backfield. He would have 4 tackles for loss and would also sack the quarterback twice as well. Every single drive where Motter had a disruptive play in the backfield, be it a sack or tackle for loss, the drive would be over for UTSA. Unfortunately, the rest of the team did not come to play as SJSU would fall to UTSA 25-10. Regardless, his efforts in this game earned him defensive player of the week in MWC.

Honorable mentions

DT Brian Smith (Fresno State) - 8 tackles, 4 tackles for loss

DE Perci Noah (CSU) - 7 tackles, 2 tackles for loss, 1 sack

ILB Mark Holmes (BSU) - 12 tackles, 2 tackles for loss

OLB Richie Uzomah (SJSU) - 3 tackles, 2 tackles for loss, 2 sacks

K Frank Lopez, Air Force

Frank Lopez was not called on to do much this week for Air Force this week but when he was called on, he delivered. He converted every extra point going 4-4 on the day and banged in two field goals, making a chip shot from 20 yards out as well as one from 45 yards out. He was one of only two kickers in the conference to go perfect in the conference in both extra points and field goal and with this performance, he nets himself special teams player of the week.

P Jordan Brault (Hawaii) - 8 punts, 59-yard average, 8 inside the 20

P Jimmy Abreu (Wyoming) - 10 punts, 54-yard average, 9 inside the 20

P Wyatt Carrier (Fresno State) - 6 punts, 56-yard average, 4 inside the 20

K Adam Garner (SDSU) - 3/4 XP, 3/4 FG (26, 24, 53)
