Week 7 Review

Week 7 Score: TCU 12 Texas Tech 10

Pre-game Prediction: TCU 24 Texas Tech 10

POTG: TCU K Kerry Rush 4/4 Field Goals

What happened: Last week we said Baylor and Texas Tech played one of the ugliest games of the 2021 season. TCU and Texas Tech just said hold my beer. The Bears and Red Raiders played one of the ugliest games of the 2021 season.

Both teams struggled mightily offensively failing to reach 300 yards of total offense. For the Horned Frogs, they were saved by the leg of kicker Kerry Rush. Rush connected on all four of his field goal attempts which allowed TCU to escape with the 12-10 victory.

For Texas Tech, running back Fernando Gonzalez performed much better rushing for 133 yards on 245 carries and one touchdown. Unfortunately, Jordan Madero was once again underwhelming and the offense as a whole continued it’s season-long struggles.

Week 8 Preview:

Match-up: Texas Tech (0-6) at Kansas (4-2)

Texas Tech continues it’s search for its first victory of the season with a matchup against the Kansas Jayhawks. The Jayhawks are coming off a convincing 24-7 victory against Oklahoma. With a 3-1 conference record, the Jayhawks are very much in the mix for the conference championship.

Texas Tech will be looking to play spoiler for the remainder of the season. While it’s been a disastrous season, the Red Raiders have been competitive in nearly every game and almost came away with a victory last week against TCU. However, if the offense is unable to pick things up, it’s hard to see them scoring enough points to be victorious.

What to watch for (TTU): Can the Texas Tech defense pitch a shutout? We’re mostly joking here, but short of a shutout, it’s hard to see the offense scoring enough points to win. The offense is just bad. There’s no way to sugarcoat it. They routinely average fewer than 300 yards of offense and are averaging a horrendous 11.5 points per game. The defense has stood tall in almost every game, but they can only do so much.

What to watch for (Kansas): Can the Jayhawk offense continue to produce? The Jayhawks bring a rather balanced offense to the field this weekend. Quarterback Ian Morgan was tremendous against Oklahoma finishing 24/32 for 343 yards and 3 touchdowns. Running back Bene’ Humber had a strong performance as well, carrying the ball 23 times for 151 yards. His second consecutive 100 yard performance. If Kansas can replicate this type of production, they have to like their odds.

What will happen: With a balanced offensive attack, this is Kansas’ game to lose. If they can continue to produce in the pass and run games, Texas Tech will have very little chance. We like Ian Morgan to throw for 250 yards and a few scores as the Jayhawks cruise to a 5-2 record.

Prediction: Kansas 28 Texas Tech 10
