RB Robert Thomas, UNLV Rebels

Robert Thomas was the very definition of what you'd call a workhorse back. In the Saturday late-night game vs Fresno State, Thomas carried the ball 46 times and he would make every single one count as he compiled 404 rushing yards in the game and 3 rushing touchdowns. He'd have runs of 74, 42, 48, and 46 yards throughout the entire game. Just when you thought you could slow him down rushing-wise, he'd come out of the backfield and destroy you in the passing game as he caught 5 catches for 65 yards and a receiving touchdown. On the day, he had 469 all-purpose yards and 4 touchdowns. However, it was all for naught as the UNLV Rebels would come up short in a 31-34 loss to the Fresno State Bulldogs.

Honorable mentions:

Anthony Sweeney (Air Force) - 13/33, 423 passing yards, 2 passing touchdowns, 1 interception, 9 carries, 36 rushing yards, 1 rushing touchdown

Nelson Holland (Nevada) - 22/32, 300 passing yards, 1 passing touchdown, 10 carries, 38 rushing yards, 1 rushing touchdown

Jay Fry (Fresno State) - 18/28, 299 passing yards, 3 passing touchdowns, 1 interception, 1 carry, 3 yards

DT Rashad Jones, UNLV Rebels

The defensive player of the week for the MWC comes from UNLV as well. The defensive tackle was dominant in all facets of the game for the Rebels. He would finish second for UNLV in tackles with 4 and would lead in almost every other single defensive category for the team. He would be a disruptive force in the backfield for UNLV with a tackle for loss and a sack as well. Not to mention, he netted himself an interception as well which is rare for a defensive lineman. While UNLV were unable to stop Fresno State's offense, there's no way you can say that Rashad Jones did not do everything in his power on the defensive line and for this performance, he grabs himself player of the week.

Honorable mentions:

Quinton Urias (New Mexico) - 9 tackles, 1.5 tackles for loss, and a fumble recovered.

Jackie Holloway (New Mexico) - 5 tackles, 1 tackle for loss, 1 sack, 1 forced fumble

Desmond Holcomb (Boise State) - 7 tackles, 1 tackle for loss, 1 sack

Eric Lee (San Jose State) - 7 tackles, 1.5 tackles for loss, 0.5 sacks

Casey Perez (Wyoming) - 6 tackles, 3 tackles for loss

Special Teams

K E.J. Sullivan, Fresno State

K Jose Mizzell, Fresno State

This is my first week doing players of the week but after taking a look at the box scores for most teams' performances, it seems that most of the special teamers in the MWC work in pairs. So, for as long as I do players of the week articles for the MWC, I decided that the player of the week honors for special teams can be co honors or individual honors depending on the week . This week, the co-players of the week are E.J Sullivan and Jose Mizzell who were a combined 4-4 on PATs and 2-2 on field goals. E.J. Sullivan would hit from 42 yards in the 3rd quarter and Jose Mizzell's field goal from 21 yards out with a minute left in the fourth quarter would prove to be the game-winner as Fresno State would beat UNLV 34-31.

Honorable mentions:

K Dorren Peraza & Brandon Jordan (Nevada) 2-2 XP, 2-2 FG

P Jordan Brault (Hawaii) - 9 punts, 512 yards, 57-yard average, 7 inside the 20

P Wyatt Carrier (Fresno State) - 9 punts, 500 yards, 56-yard average, 6 inside the 20

P Geoff Mahle (Boise State) - 9 punts, 491 yards, 55-yard average, 6 inside the 20

Not sure if I'm suddenly allowed to write media out of the blue but I noticed a lack of media for the MWC and thought I could write a little something up.
