  1. With the addition of weather into the sim, it only made sense to incorporate some type of maps to turn those number outputs into qualitative data. It's like the best part of Weather on the 8's, but without the smooth jazz in the background and more large words! All of the maps, at least at the beginning, will be the four main data points of: High Temp, Cloud Cover, Precipitation Percentage, and Wind Speed. The stations and campus sites are independent of each other for now, meaning that some locations may be a bit wonky....but that's being addressed as we speak. THURSDAY Starting our week is Thursday Night. Game time temps along the Gulf Coast will hover in the upper 80s to low 90s. A recent storm system has made it's way into the Mississippi River valley, bringing cloudy skies and gusty winds with it. Some scattered showers remain behind, mostly in the Houston Metro area but the Texarkana area may experience strong storms into the overnight hours. Areas ahead of the main system may experience brief instances of rainfall, mostly centered over the Carolinas and the Ohio River valley. Game time temps here range from the upper 80s in the south to upper 70s as you move into the Appalachians. In the Northeast, heavy clouds are accompanied by large areas of expected rainfall, with some isolated thunderstorms possibly turning severe. A strong breeze coming off the Atlantic will keep temps in the mid to low 70s for most of the region, with locally higher temps in larger metro areas. FRIDAY Moving into Friday night, the storm system has made its way into the Eastern part of the country with wide swaths of rain ranging from the Tennessee mountains into the Poconos of central Pennsylvania. Behind the system, an influx of moisture from the Gulf of Mexico will cause temperatures to rise above average, with most hovering in the upper 80s to low 90s. Clouds remain over most of the area as the outflow from the system makes its way east across the area. The Mid-Atlantic states will see seasonably warm temperatures with scattered clouds. Areas closer to the coast make experience strong gusts in excess of 25 mph, prompting possible red flag warnings for those hoping to spend the day at the beaches. Another round of storms expected for the Hudson River valley as winds from the Great Lakes region will fuel lifting mechanisms, bringing clouds and drenching rains. A passing shower or two may be seen in the Philadelphia and New York metro areas. Temps are expected to remain in the upper 70s to lower 80s across the Northeast. SATURDAY Looking at the eastern half of the lower 48, widespread showers are expected over the Great Plains region, extending south into Texas and Louisiana. Behind this storm, temperatures in the mid 90s extend from Texas into surrounding states, tapering off into lower 80s as you reach the Nebraska/Iowa border. Light and variable winds are forecast across most of the country, with winds near the Gulf Coast and Great Lakes gusting into the mid 20s or low 30s. Sporadic cloud cover is expected with most of the East Coast being under mostly cloudy to overcast skies. The southern Ohio River valley and DMV areas will see heavy rains, with some areas being under a Flash Flood Watch. Umbrellas or ponchos are recommended if you're going to the games in these regions. In the Western lower 48, the system extends west back into the Four Corners region. Scattered monsoon rains will move through the area with the highest concentration of rainfall being found in the northern parts of the Colorado Plateau in central and northern Utah. Temperatures are expected to be seasonably warm for most of the area, with cities near the Pacific Coast experiencing a cooling sea breeze. Las Vegas is under a Severe Storm Watch with strong winds above 30mph expected. Clouds associated with the monsoon extend east into the Nebraska Sandhills and south into northern Arizona and New Mexico. SUNDAY For NFL Sunday, temperatures will be seasonable across the entirety of the eastern 48. Strong winds in the Deep South and Appalachian Mountains bring a burn ban with them, so make sure any coals from your tailgating grills are thoroughly snuffed out before going inside to the game! Across the High Plains, an isolated storm system is setting up in SE South Dakota and near the Nebraska/Kansas border. Areas ahead of this storm can expect to see clear skies and strong winds, with most of the area forecast to receive sustained winds between 30 and 35 mph. Scattered showers throughout the daylight hours are expected, with some turning severe in the late afternoon. A slight chance of tornadoes is connected to the northern portion of this storm. Moving east, more rain for the Ohio River valley and southern Appalachians. After days of soaking rain, mudslides are a concern. This extends from the WV panhandle into the Great Smoky Mountains. Wind gusts near 30mph will also provide the chance of falling trees associated with the saturated ground. The Northeast will see heavy rains as well, with the heaviest concentrations of precipitation occurring on the eastern side of the Poconos. In the West, the Pineapple Express will bring heavy rains to most of the coast, with a line of storms extending the length of the country from the Canadian border to the entirety of the Mexican border north of Sinaloa. These storms will bring cooler than normal temperatures across the area. No relief from the heat in the desert, however, as temperatures above 100 degrees extend from SE Arizona into central Nevada. An excessive heat warning is in effect for this region due to light winds and little cloud cover, so make sure to pack plenty of water if you plan on going to the Raiders game. MONDAY Monday night sees a single game on the docket, as the Rams take on the Eagles at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, CA. Temperatures will be seasonable, with highs in the area in the low 80s. No precipitation is forecast for the Los Angeles area while few clouds and light winds will ensure a comfortable day to watch football.
